1Appreciate art

The glass art decorating near the train stations symbolizes different parts of Okinawan culture and history. Each station has glass art specialties, such as a depiction of the majestic and graceful Ryukyu classical dance”Yotsudake,” a depiction of a yachimun (pottery) ascending kiln, and one depicting a scene from an event at Shuri Castle, which you don’t want to miss.

2These places have special Okinawan characteristics!

The outside of the station building and the station sign near the ticket machine were designed using traditional Okinawan crafts such as ” bingata” , a dyeing technique, and ” Ryukyu kasuri” , a traditional Okiniwan textile. The combination with the six station colors (blue, green, yellow, orange, red, and purple) provided for each of the three stations expresses Okinawan character.

3Don’t miss the chimes and vehicles!

The color of the red line is symbolic of the lacquer painting of Shuri Castle. The color change from black lines to gray makes the car look lighter and longer. A chime with an arrangement of Okinawan folk songs plays when arriving at each of the 19 stations, so everyone can enjoy these local Okinawan folk melodies.
